Weekly Round-Up

After what has been a pretty mentally draining week, I think I’m just about getting back to normal. Life is hard, sometimes, y’know. I’m going to be open and real about this – this week has been a struggle and a real downer. Nothing bad has happened – let me stress this – and I’m fine, it’s just been one of those weeks.

But, enough with the complaining, good things have still happened this week and I’m here to tell you about them!

Reading

One of the many delights in life is Liv Purvis‘ ‘Sunday Duvet Reading’ newsletter. She collects interesting articles, blog posts and pieces of art for her readers to look at, and I actually get quite inspired by this. This week, I learnt that she and her friend, Charlotte, have started their own podcast, ‘The Fringe Of It’, and I can’t wait to tune in.

As you may or may not know about me, I am the world’s slowest reader and, although I love books and reading, I just can’t seem to get through them very quickly at all. It’s one thing that I would change about myself if I could. I tend to do that really annoying thing where I start a book, get about 100 pages in, and leave it. However, I’ve recently finished a book (this is me pausing to listen to your shocked gasps) and I really enjoyed it. It’s called ‘Not Dead Enough’ by Peter James. If you like crime/thriller/detective novels, this one’s for you.

Watching

These days, I don’t watch an awful lot of telly because, well, there’s not an awful lot on. Trying to decide between ITV News (which, let’s face it, is just plain depressing), and Cake Wars (which just makes me crave cake) is about as good as it gets. So, as does the rest of the nation, we turn to Netflix… and spend the next three days binge watching a series.

Which is precisely what I’ve done.

Marcella is on its second series at the moment, but I’ve been catching up with series one on Netflix, and ohmigerd it’s so good! Quite gruesome and scary in parts, it’s such a gripping story about a detective who finds herself caught up in one of her murder cases.

And (bonus recommendation coming your way, folks) while you’re there, have a watch of The Sinner, too. This is a bit more intense and very disturbing in parts, but the storyline is so gripping and it kept me guessing the whole way through.

Listening

If you’re a bit like me and love a bit of cheese when it comes to music, then you’re probably familiar with the ‘throwback’ playlists on Spotify. They’ve been the soundtrack to my week – everything from Grease Lightening (yeah, okay, I know) to Pon de Replay by Rihanna.

I’ve also had Mambo No. 5 on a couple of times but shhhh

Eating

I’ve spent the past five weeks or so on a ‘clean’ diet, with no chocolate, biscuits or cake and my god it’s been difficult. I don’t know how people do this full-time but it’s definitely not for me, thank you very much.

So, after all my hard work, I decided this week I was going to treat myself because a life without chocolate isn’t fun. It started on valentine’s day, with the most delicious homemade chocolate brownie I’ve ever had – read more about that here – and I don’t regret a single bite!

As I said earlier, this week has been tough, so a bit of chocolate has helped me massively! It’s okay to treat yourself every now and then, and I’m fine with that.

Thanks for reading this week, and thanks to everyone who’s followed me recently, I really do appreciate it.

Just as a side note, I’ve recently changed my Twitter account to @amylouisewrites, so if you want to keep up-to-date with all things blog, then head over there! 🙂

Amy.

  1. I loved the last series of Marcella, such a well written show. Haven’t watched any of this series yet as I really dislike waiting for the next episodes, so I’m giving it a couple of weeks. Hopefully I don’t get any spoilers! Thanks for sharing x

    1. I’m liking this series too, but it’s quite a bit darker in terms of plot..! It’s hard having to wait a whole week between episodes haha!! I know what you mean 😂 x
