Weekly Round-Up

This week, I’ve decided to give you a whistle-stop tour of all the interesting and fun things I’ve been reading, watching or listening to. As I’ve had a bit more free time this week, I’ve used this as an excuse to delve into the world of blogs, books and bloomin’ good music, and thought you may enjoy them, too!

Book

If you’re a fan of whodunit kind of reads, this is a book for you. Far From True is actually book number two of a series called the Promise Falls Trilogy, where each story takes place in the same town. As an avid reader of Linwood Barclay’s books (yes, I’ve read them all), I can say with confidence that this book lives up to his standards.

(How cool is my elephant mug, btw? Urban Outfitters)

The thriller, set in a quiet (or not so quiet) town, follows private investigator, Cal Weaver, on his mission to solve who’s behind all the strange and deadly things going on across the town.

All the books in this series contain the same characters, to a greater or lesser degree, and so you feel like you’re getting to know them well.

I really enjoyed this book, along with Barclay’s others, and would highly recommend! If you want to get involved, start with Broken Promise

Blog

I’ve really been enjoying Olivia Purvis’ blog recently (blogger goals). I love the aesthetics and photography, along with the great book and article recommendations. Her chatty posts are welcoming and the upbeat approach she takes on life is inspiring to me. This is why I didn’t hesitate to sign up to her weekly newsletter!

YouTube

With more and more people hopping on the YouTube wagon, I thought I’d share my ultimate favourite channel with you. I’ve watched their weekly videos for about three and a half years (omg three years? Really?) and their unique approach to filming is refreshing. I’m talking about The Michalaks!

The family of four (including the recent edition of baby Rufus) upload videos of their week. These videos sit more comfortably in the film sector than as a vlog; I really enjoy their ‘arty’ approach.

Hannah has a parenting, lifestyle and beauty blog, Hannah Maggs, and sells lovely make-up bags, accessories, prints and art on her Maggs London website. Husband Stef runs the site Wantfeed alongside editing these videos.

Magazine

Fictive Dream is a creative writing e-zine that showcases short fiction from both established and up-and-coming writers. As a writer myself, I came across this site while searching for a publication to send my work to, and this really stuck out to me.

They have “stories with a distinctive voice, clarity of thought and precision of language”, and it was this that drew me in!

Music

A few years back, I discovered the beautiful music of Rhodes and I fell in love instantly, buying all of his EPs. Recently though, it’s almost as if I’ve re-discovered him. I don’t know why, but I’d kind of forgot about this genre of music (I blame uni, just sayin’)  so when it appeared on shuffle the other day, I got addicted all over again. If you’re into chilled, relaxing, yet powerful music – this will be for you.

What have you been enjoying this week? Give me some recommendations!

  1. What a lovely little update! I’ve mostly been listening to Ed Sheeran this past week, I always tend to return to his X album during autumn. I’ll definitely check out Rhodes tho! Love the concept of this post.
