Bath

Bath is one of my favourite cities in the UK. With cobbled streets and beautiful parks, everything is just idyllic. I’ve visited quite a few times – with friends or family or with my boyfriend.

Living in Cheltenham, Bath isn’t too far away so it makes a lovely day trip. A quick hop on the train and you’re in the heart of history and British culture.

The last time I visited, I was with my boyfriend Dom. We went to the Roman Baths, the Royal Crescent and even tried the infamous Sally Lunn’s Buns (which did not disappoint!)

Not forgetting the crazy golf, of course.

I always find I discover something new every time I go to Bath; whether that’s a cute cafe or the best handmade cookies ever (thank you Ben’s Cookies, thank you. (No, this is not an ad, I just really love cookies)).

It’s a wonderful city, bursting with beauty. If you decide to go, do spend time visiting the sights, but also don’t forget to follow the winding streets to see what you can find.

 

Stratford-upon-Avon

The home of the great Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon is another idyllic town. Dating back to the Medieval times, there’s plenty to go and see. Starting, of course, with Shakespeare’s birthplace.

 

Me and Dom

It’s so interesting, as a Creative Writing student, to wander around the very walls where the famous Shakespeare grew up, and therefore where many of his ideas were dreamed up. With pretty grounds and live performances, it’s definitely worth a trip.

Tip – if you shop at Tesco, you can buy entrance tickets with Tesco Clubcard vouchers! Shhhh! (True of August 2017)

I really wish I was a better photographer – this isn’t giving the canal justice at all!

A canal runs along the bottom of the town, where boats frequently pass up and down. There’s a lovely walk all around the river, taking you under willow trees and over bridges.

If you wanted to, you can hire out rowing boats – the perfect idea for a date.

 

Stroud

Sitting in the rolling hills of the Cotswalds, you can find Stroud –  a small market town offering independent shops, cafes and galleries. Again, I visited here with my boyfriend, Dom, on a beautifully sunny day last spring.

I think we went on a Saturday; it was fairly busy and there was a food market, selling all sorts of wonderful treats.

There’s lots of narrow streets and steep hills – so pack lightly if you want to climb further up to see the incredible views.
